What Reddit Is Saying About the iPhone Duo (and the Time It Takes)

A hobby workbench with a wooden model ship, plants and a laptop

Lots of people type "iPhone Duo Reddit" into a search box, and it is easy to see why: Reddit is where owners talk about the day-to-day things a launch review doesn't cover. We read through a set of recent threads in r/iphone and r/apple from the first week after the October 23 release and noted what keeps coming up. This is a summary of themes, not a verdict, and it comes with caveats about reading any forum this way.

In short: in the threads we read, owners were mostly positive about the two-screen idea and the smaller closed phone, with recurring comments about apps that haven't caught up to the larger display, the missing Face ID, and the crease. Treat it as anecdote. And if you want to read Reddit on this topic without disappearing into it, open it newest-first and skip r/popular.

How we read the threads

We searched the public Reddit archive for posts in r/iphone and r/apple from October 16 to 31, 2026, then opened the busiest owner-experience threads and read the comments. Three were most useful: a ~120-comment "how's the transition been" thread in r/iphone, a first-week write-up, also in r/iphone, and an r/apple thread about a rival's ad mocking cracked Duo displays. We are paraphrasing themes and not quoting anyone, and we are not naming any user.

Recurring themes

The closed phone gets more use than people expected

Several owners said they had assumed they would live on the big inner screen and ended up using the smaller cover display most of the time, opening the phone only for specific jobs. A few said the opened screen felt "big enough" without needing a tablet.

Apps that haven't adapted

This was the most common complaint. Some commenters described apps showing up with unused space, such as black bars, on the larger display, and others said it normally takes weeks after any new screen size for developers to catch up. Apple's own newsroom says developers can adapt using new APIs in the latest SDKs, so this looks like a timing issue, but we haven't tested individual apps.

No Face ID

Owners brought up the missing Face ID and the switch to Touch ID. Some wearing an Apple Watch said unlocking with the watch made it a non-issue; others said they missed it.

The crease

Many said they stopped noticing it in everyday use. A smaller group disagreed. It is the single most argued-over topic.

Durability jokes and a rival ad

The r/apple thread was less about owning the phone and more about a Samsung ad that jokes about cracked Duo screens. Commenters split between amused, defensive and "wait for generation two." That thread is about the ad, not about evidence of how common cracked screens are.

Subreddit tone

One commenter said negative comments get downvoted in the dedicated Duo subreddit, which is a fair reminder of the next section.

How much to trust it

  • Self-selected. People who bought a $1,999 phone and post about it skew happy. People who returned it often don't post.
  • Early. Most of these threads are days old. "No problems" at day six says little about month six.
  • Not verified. We can't check any commenter's claim. Where a number or a technical claim matters, go to Apple or to hands-on reviews such as CNN's review.
  • Subreddit effects. A thread's tone depends on the community, its rules and what its moderators remove.

What Apple itself says

For specs, rely on Apple. Its newsroom post lists a 7.6-inch inner display, a 5.4-inch outer display, the A20 Pro chip and a $1,999 starting U.S. price, with Star White and Night Sky as colors. The product page describes Split View in landscape.

Reading Reddit without losing the evening

Researching a purchase is a legitimate reason to open Reddit. It is also a well-known way to lose an evening: one thread links to another, the home feed is full of things you didn't search for, and an hour goes. A few habits help:

  1. Search for the thing you want, read two or three threads, and stop. Write down the question you are trying to answer first.
  2. Sort by new if you want a live picture, or by top if you want the best-argued thread. Don't browse the front page.
  3. Skip r/popular and r/all. They are ranked for the whole site, not for your question.

Stillfeed, an iPhone app, can do the last two for you. As of October 2026 it opens Reddit sorted by New and blocks r/popular and r/all, so your home feed is the communities you joined. It runs on the Duo like any iPhone app. For the longer version, see how to stop doomscrolling.

Common questions

What do people on Reddit think of the iPhone Duo?

In the threads we read, mostly positive from owners, with recurring remarks about app support, Face ID and the crease. It is a small, early sample.

Is there a foldable iPhone subreddit?

There is at least one subreddit dedicated to the Duo. Find it by searching Reddit; keep in mind that community tone shapes what you read there.

Are the crease complaints true?

Commenters disagree. Use hands-on reviews for a measured view.

Can I read Reddit without the endless feed?

Yes. Search for what you need, or open Reddit in Stillfeed, where r/popular and r/all are blocked and the home feed is sorted by New.
