Snapchat on a Foldable iPhone: Keep It to Chats

People searching for "iPhone fold" and "iPhone Duo" are, in large part, asking one question: what do I do with all that screen? For a lot of people the honest answer for Snapchat is "talk to friends, and nothing else." Here's how to get there without leaving the group chat.

In short: a bigger screen makes endless feeds more immersive, and Snapchat's feeds are Spotlight and Discover. That gives you a choice a normal iPhone never did. The cover display is a phone-sized screen for quick things. The inner display is closer to a small tablet. How you use each one is yours to decide, and for a chat app the natural split is clear: replies on the cover, anything that needs a larger canvas inside.

What do you actually use Snapchat for?

Before changing anything, answer this plainly. For many people the answer is: a few friend groups, streaks, quick back-and-forth. That is a messaging job. If that's you, nothing about a foldable creates a reason to watch strangers' short videos, and a larger display is a reason to be a bit more careful, not less.

If the camera, Lenses or posting your own Stories is the point, this approach won't suit you, and that's fine. Skip ahead to the trade-offs.

The two feeds inside the chat app

Spotlight is an endless stream of short videos. Discover is a stream of public Stories and shows. Neither has a bottom. They are the same mechanism that powers every doomscrolling session: variable rewards, no stopping point, and a swipe that costs nothing. The detail that bites is placement. Both sit next to your conversations. You open the app to reply to one message, and the feed is one swipe away. A bigger screen doesn't change that, it just gives the clip more space to hold you in place.

As far as we know, as of October 2026, Snapchat doesn't offer a setting to turn either one off in its app.

How to make Snapchat chat-only

  • Web, not the app. Snapchat for Web is built mainly for chatting and doesn't offer everything the app does. If you rely on the camera or Lenses, keep the app too.
  • Only inside Stillfeed. The Snapchat app is unchanged. To make chat-only the default, move it off your home screen or give it a short Screen Time limit and put Stillfeed in its place.
  • iPhone only. No Android version.
