How to use Reddit without the algorithm: hide r/popular and r/all on iPhone

Reddit is at its best in the communities you chose. Here's how to keep those, sorted newest first, and lose r/popular, r/all and the ranked feeds.

Quick answer: Stillfeed, an in-app browser for iPhone, opens the real reddit.com signed into your account with r/popular and r/all blocked and your home feed sorted by New: posts from the communities you joined, newest first, instead of the ranked Best, Hot, Top or Rising feeds.

Why Reddit is easy to get lost in

Reddit can be the most useful site on the internet: a niche community that answers your exact question, a hobby forum, a local subreddit. It can also be an endless scroll. The difference is usually the feed you land on.

r/popular and r/all pull in the most upvoted posts from across the whole site, most of them from communities you never chose. The ranked sorts on your home feed (Best, Hot, Top, Rising) keep reshuffling posts so there's always something new at the top. Together they make it easy to open Reddit for one thread and close it an hour later.

What Stillfeed changes on Reddit

Stillfeed loads reddit.com, the real Reddit website, signed into your own account. As of October 2026, it:

  • Blocks r/popular.
  • Blocks r/all.
  • Opens your home feed sorted by New, so you see posts from communities you joined in the order they were posted, not ranked to keep you scrolling.

Sorting by New has a nice side effect: you reach posts you've already seen, and that's a natural place to stop. A ranked feed never really gives you that moment.

What still works

  • Every community you joined, and any community you visit on purpose.
  • Posts, comments and voting on the Reddit website.
  • Search, so you can still find the thread you came for.
  • Your profile and inbox.

Stillfeed never changes your Reddit account, your joined communities or your posts. Your login goes straight to Reddit, and no Stillfeed account is needed.

Tip: tidy your communities

With r/popular gone, your home feed is only as calm as the communities you've joined. If some of them are mostly memes or outrage, consider leaving them. A short list of communities you actually care about makes the New feed something you can finish.

Free or Pro?

Open Stillfeed's settings to see which Reddit options are included free and which come with Pro. The Instagram and YouTube part (Reels, Shorts and Explore removed) is free for everyone from the first launch. Stillfeed Pro is optional and adds things like a daily time limit.

How to set it up

  1. Download Stillfeed from the App Store and open it.
  2. Pick Reddit.
  3. Log in as you normally would. Your username and password go straight to Reddit.
  4. Browse. Your home feed opens sorted by New, with r/popular and r/all out of reach.

Trade-offs to know about

  • It only works inside Stillfeed. The official Reddit app is unchanged, so move it off your home screen or delete it, and put Stillfeed in its place.
  • It's the website. Reddit's mobile website can look and behave differently from the app, and some app-only features may not be there.
  • New isn't for everyone. If you join very busy communities, a New feed moves fast. Fewer, smaller communities work best.
  • iPhone only. There's no Android version.

More on other platforms

Stillfeed does the same for X, TikTok, Snapchat and LinkedIn, and removes Reels and Shorts from Instagram and YouTube. See the full list on the platforms page. For habits that help beyond any one app, read 10 strategies to stop doomscrolling, or take the doomscrolling test to see where you stand.

Common questions

How do I hide r/popular on Reddit?

Open Reddit through Stillfeed. As of October 2026, Stillfeed blocks r/popular and r/all, so the only feed left on the home page is the one built from communities you joined.

Can I make Reddit show only my subscribed subreddits?

Your home feed is built from the communities you joined. Stillfeed opens it sorted by New, so you see those posts newest first rather than ranked by Best, Hot, Top or Rising.

Can I still search Reddit and read comments?

Yes. Stillfeed only blocks r/popular and r/all and changes how the home feed is sorted. Communities, posts, comments and search work as they do on the Reddit website.

Is the Reddit part of Stillfeed free?

Open Stillfeed's settings to see which options are included free and which come with Pro. Removing Reels, Shorts and Explore from Instagram and YouTube is free from first launch.

Keep the app. Lose the endless feed.

Stillfeed removes Reels, Shorts and Explore from Instagram and YouTube, free from your first launch. No setup, no sign-up.
