X on iPhone Duo: Keep the Big Screen on Following, Not For You

A newspaper, an espresso and a phone face-down on a café table

Apple's first foldable iPhone went on sale on October 23, and the question we keep seeing is what to put on that big inner screen. X is on a lot of those lists. Here is the case for keeping it on Following instead of For You, and a way to do that on iPhone.

In short: iPhone Duo has a 7.6-inch inner display and a 5.4-inch cover display, according to Apple. More screen means more posts in view at once, and on X's For You tab, more of them come from accounts you never chose. Stillfeed, an iPhone app, opens x.com with your home timeline on Following and hides Trends and Explore suggestions. Messages and search still work.

What Apple says about iPhone Duo

Apple announced iPhone Duo on September 9, 2026. The details that matter for this article, all from Apple's own pages:

  • A 7.6-inch inner display and a 5.4-inch outer display.
  • The A20 Pro chip.
  • A starting price of $1,999 in the U.S., in Star White or Night Sky.
  • Availability from October 23.
  • On the product page, Split View for two apps side by side in landscape.

Apple has also said how its own apps and a few third-party ones use the folding design. It has not, as far as we can find, said anything about how X behaves on it, so this article doesn't guess.

Why a bigger screen changes the feed

A timeline is a vertical list. On a small screen you see two or three posts at a time; on a 7.6-inch panel you see more of them, and more of whatever sits between them: quote posts, replies, recommended accounts, promoted posts. That is useful when you are reading a long thread. It is less useful when the list is one you didn't choose.

It also matters how you hold a foldable. A bigger screen invites longer sessions, the same way a tablet does. Nothing about that is bad in itself. The trouble starts when the longer session is spent in a feed with no end.

For You versus Following

X's home screen has two timelines. Following shows posts from accounts you follow. For You is recommended: it mixes in posts from accounts you don't follow, ranked by what X predicts will hold your attention. It has no natural last post, which is the property we cover in what is doomscrolling.

You can tap Following in X's own app and stay there, but For You is one swipe away on every launch, and so is Explore with its trending topics. As of October 2026 we are not aware of a setting in X that removes For You altogether. The full walkthrough is on our X platform page.

Keeping X on Following with Stillfeed

Stillfeed is an iPhone app that works as an in-app browser. It loads the real x.com signed into your own account, and as of October 2026 it:

  • Opens your home timeline on Following rather than For You.
  • Hides trending topics and Explore content that would pull you into a recommended stream.
  • Keeps search working, so you can still look up a person or a topic on purpose.

Your messages, posting, replying and profiles stay as they are. Stillfeed does not change your account, who you follow or what you have posted; it hides parts of the page on your phone.

Stillfeed is an iPhone app, so it runs on iPhone Duo like any other. The choice between Following and For You is the same on any screen size, so it makes sense to settle it before you get used to a bigger one.

What is free and what is Pro

The X basics above, Following and the Explore and Trending hiding, are part of Stillfeed's free core. Stillfeed Pro is optional and adds extras layered on top. For X these include hiding sponsored posts, hiding likes and counts, and a media filter that can show only text posts or drop videos. Open Stillfeed's settings to see exactly what each toggle does.

What this does not do

Being honest about the limits is part of the point:

  • It only changes X inside Stillfeed. If you keep X's own app on the home screen, that app is unchanged. Remove it, or at least move it off the first page.
  • Following is still a feed. If you follow hundreds of accounts, a Following timeline can also be long. Pruning who you follow is a separate, worthwhile job.
  • It won't decide how much time is too much. For that, pair it with a limit; our guide to how to stop doomscrolling covers the options.

Common questions

Can I turn off the For You tab in X's own app?

Not as far as we know as of October 2026. You can tap Following, but For You remains available.

Does iPhone Duo change how X works?

Not the feed itself. Apple's published specs cover the screens, chip and multitasking, not X. The For You and Following tabs are the same as on any iPhone, there's just more screen for them.

Will Stillfeed still let me use X messages?

Yes. Messages stay available, along with posting, replying and search.

Is Stillfeed made for iPhone Duo?

No. It is an iPhone app, and we are not claiming it is optimized for, designed for or tested on iPhone Duo.
