Snapchat Spotlight on the iPhone Duo: How to Keep It Out of Your Chats

Three friends talking around a campfire on a beach at dusk

Apple's first foldable iPhone went on sale on October 23, 2026, and the first thing it changes about your phone is how much screen there is to fall into. If Snapchat is mostly where your friends talk, but Spotlight keeps swallowing your evenings, a bigger display is not obviously good news. This post covers what the iPhone Duo's screens actually are, why Spotlight is the part worth worrying about, and how to keep Snapchat to the part you opened it for.

In short: Snapchat has no setting to turn Spotlight off in its app, as far as we know as of October 2026. Stillfeed, an iPhone app that works as an in-app browser, opens Snapchat for Web with Spotlight, Discover, Lenses and public Stories blocked, so you land in your chats. Stillfeed is an iPhone app and runs on iPhone Duo as one; it isn't built or tested specifically for the Duo.

What the iPhone Duo is, briefly

Apple announced the iPhone Duo on September 9, 2026, and it went on sale on October 23. It folds open to a 7.6-inch inner display; closed, it has a 5.4-inch outer display. It runs on the A20 Pro chip, starts at $1,999 in the U.S., and comes in Star White and Night Sky. Apple's announcement also describes Split View, which puts two apps side by side on an iPhone for the first time. Those details come from Apple's newsroom post and the iPhone Duo page.

What we can say is general: the inner display is a lot more screen than a regular iPhone, and anything that plays full-screen video will have more to fill.

Why Spotlight is the part to worry about

Snapchat is really two products wearing one icon. One is a messaging app: you open it, see who wrote, reply, close it. The other is a feed. Spotlight is an endless run of short videos from people you don't know, and Discover is a stream of public Stories and shows. Both sit a swipe from your conversations.

That matters for the Duo because short vertical video is the format that makes endless feeds so sticky. There's no end to a Spotlight scroll and no natural place to stop, so how long you stay depends on how little friction there is to the next clip. A larger, brighter screen doesn't make that worse by itself, but it doesn't make it any better either: it makes each clip more immersive, which is the opposite of the pause you need to notice you've been scrolling for twenty minutes. If that loop sounds familiar, our guide to what doomscrolling is explains why it's so hard to leave once you're in it.

Is there a setting to turn Spotlight off?

As far as we know, as of October 2026, Snapchat doesn't give you one. You can mute accounts, tune what Snapchat shows you, and set a Screen Time limit for the whole app, but there's no switch that removes Spotlight and leaves chat. That's true on any iPhone and we've no reason to think a foldable changes it, though check Snapchat's own settings yourself if you're deciding anything on the strength of this post.

A Screen Time limit is a blunt tool here. It counts messaging and videos the same, so when it fires, it cuts off the part you wanted too. See Stillfeed vs Screen Time for how the two compare.

Chat-only Snapchat with Stillfeed

Stillfeed opens Snapchat for Web, Snapchat's own browser version, signed into your own account. As of October 2026 it blocks:

  • Spotlight
  • Discover
  • Lenses
  • Public Stories

When you open Snapchat inside Stillfeed you land in your chats. Your login goes directly to Snapchat, no Stillfeed account is needed, and Stillfeed never changes your account, your friends or anything you've posted. To set it up:

  1. Download Stillfeed from the App Store and open it.
  2. Pick Snapchat.
  3. Log in as you normally would.
  4. Chat. The feed surfaces are already blocked.

Stillfeed is an iPhone app, so it runs on the iPhone Duo as it would on any iPhone. Open Stillfeed's settings to see which Snapchat options are included free and which come with Pro.

What you give up

Being straight about the trade-offs matters more than the pitch:

  • It's Snapchat for Web, not the app. The web version is built mainly for chatting and doesn't do everything the app does. If the camera or Lenses are how you use Snapchat, keep the app for that and use Stillfeed for messages.
  • It only works inside Stillfeed. The Snapchat app itself is unchanged. To make chat-only the default, move the app off your home screen and put Stillfeed in its place.
  • iPhone only. There's no Android version.

A few habits that help on any big screen

Taking out the feed is the structural fix. A few small habits sit on top of it:

  1. Decide what a Snapchat session is for. Reply, then close. If you open it with no purpose, you're asking the feed to supply one.
  2. Keep the cover display for quick checks. Replying to a message from the 5.4-inch outer screen is a smaller commitment than unfolding the whole phone. That's a habit, not a feature of any app.
  3. Notice the swipe. The moment you slide away from a conversation is when a feed usually begins.

Common questions

Can you turn off Spotlight on Snapchat?

Not in the Snapchat app, as far as we know as of October 2026. Stillfeed opens Snapchat for Web with Spotlight, Discover, Lenses and public Stories blocked, so you land in your chats.

Does Snapchat Spotlight work differently on the iPhone Duo?

The iPhone Duo has a larger inner display, so full-screen video has more room, but how Snapchat's app uses it is up to Snapchat.

Does Stillfeed work on the iPhone Duo?

Stillfeed is an iPhone app, and iPhone apps run on the iPhone Duo.

Can I still send snaps?

Stillfeed uses Snapchat for Web, which is mainly for chatting, and Lenses are blocked. If the camera is a big part of how you use Snapchat, keep the app for that.

Is this free?

Open Stillfeed's settings to see which Snapchat options are free and which come with Pro.
