Instagram on the iPhone Duo: How to Keep Reels From Taking Over the Big Screen

Apple's iPhone Duo, its first foldable iPhone, went on sale on October 23, 2026. Open it up and you get a 7.6-inch inner display, which Apple says is 50% larger than the one on iPhone 18 Pro Max. Close it and the outer display is 5.4 inches. If you scroll Instagram for a living, or just by accident, a bigger screen raises an obvious question: does it make Reels worse?
We can't tell you how Instagram's own app looks or behaves on the Duo, because Apple's announcement doesn't cover it and we'd be guessing. What we can tell you is what doesn't change: Instagram still has no off switch for Reels or Explore, and a bigger canvas is the same endless feed. Here's how to keep it in check.
In short: Instagram has no setting that removes Reels, whatever phone you use. On a large screen, the practical options are the Following feed (resets each time you reopen the app), iOS Screen Time limits (whole app only), or Stillfeed, a free iPhone in-app browser that hides Reels, Explore and Suggested posts on instagram.com. Stillfeed is an iPhone app, so it runs on iPhone Duo like any other iPhone app; we haven't made claims about how it looks on the inner display.
What we actually know about iPhone Duo
From Apple's newsroom announcement: the iPhone Duo was announced on September 9, 2026, and starts at $1,999 in the U.S. It has an A20 Pro chip, comes in star white and night sky, and ships with iOS 27.1. iOS 27 adds foldable-specific features, including Split View, which puts two apps side by side on an iPhone for the first time.
The launch list of third-party apps Apple names is Netflix, Zoom and Slack. Apple doesn't mention Instagram. So anything you read claiming to know exactly how Instagram uses the inner display is, for now, speculation, including from us.
Why a bigger screen changes the scroll
A Reel is built to fill a phone. On a larger display it fills more of your field of view, leaves less of the room visible around it, and feels more like television. Whether or not Instagram adapts its layout, the mechanism is the same one described in our guide to why Reels are so hard to put down: autoplay, an endless queue and a variable reward every swipe.
A second point is easy to miss. A device that is more pleasant to look at is a device you pick up more. If you bought a $1,999 foldable partly to watch things, the temptation is built in. Deciding what Instagram is allowed to be before you open it is cheaper than relying on willpower mid-scroll.
Native options that work on any iPhone
1. Switch to the Following feed
Tap the Instagram logo at the top of the home screen and choose Following. You see posts from accounts you follow, newest first. It resets when you reopen the app, so it's a habit rather than a setting.
2. Tell Instagram "Not interested"
On any Reel or suggested post, open the menu and choose Not interested. This tunes what shows up, not whether it shows up. See how to hide Stories and Suggested posts for the full set of tweaks.
3. Set an iOS Screen Time limit
- Open Settings → Screen Time → App Limits → Add Limit.
- Pick Instagram (or the Social category) and a daily time.
- Turn on Block at End of Limit, and consider a passcode someone else sets.
Screen Time caps minutes but can't separate Reels from your DMs, so hitting the limit locks both. More in our guide to taking a break from Instagram.
Using Stillfeed on iPhone Duo
Stillfeed is an in-app browser for iPhone. It loads the real instagram.com, signed into your own account, and hides Reels, Explore and Suggested posts before they appear. Instagram opens to your Following feed. All of that is free from the first launch.
Stillfeed Pro is an optional extra that adds hiding Stories and the main Feed, a DMs-only mode and a daily time limit.
On iPhone Duo, Stillfeed runs as an iPhone app. What it does is what it does on any iPhone: change what Instagram's website shows you.
Setup takes a minute: download Stillfeed, pick Instagram, log in as usual (your credentials go straight to Instagram), and browse. Then move the official Instagram app off your home screen so muscle memory doesn't take you back.
Habits for a foldable
- Decide per display. If you want the outer display to be the "quick check" screen, keep social apps off the inner one's home page. It's your layout; Apple's Home Screen on Duo has two pages when open.
- Don't pair Instagram with a second app by reflex. Split View is a productivity feature. Pairing a feed with another task usually makes both worse.
- Keep the DMs, drop the feed. The goal is to talk to people, not to be fed. Stillfeed's DMs-only mode (Pro) does that; otherwise use the Following feed.

Common questions
Does Instagram use the iPhone Duo's inner display?
Apple hasn't said. Its announcement names Netflix, Zoom and Slack as launch partners and doesn't mention Instagram, so check Instagram's own release notes.
Can you turn off Reels on iPhone Duo?
Not in Instagram's settings, on this phone or any other. You can switch to the Following feed or use a tool like Stillfeed that hides Reels.
Does Stillfeed work on iPhone Duo?
Stillfeed is an iPhone app, so it runs on iPhone Duo like any other iPhone app.
Is Stillfeed free?
Hiding Reels, Explore and Suggested on Instagram is free, with no trial. Stillfeed Pro is an optional purchase for Stories, Feed, DMs-only and a daily limit.
Will Screen Time work on the foldable?
Screen Time is part of iOS, so App Limits are available in Settings. It limits whole apps, not Reels specifically.
